The POP-EXPOSE

‘Fisher Price Adventure People’ Story by Mitchell Smith!

Before Marvel, before G.I. Joe, even before Star WarsFisher Price had a 3 inch action figure called Adventure People. These were a relatively simple figure that had simple gear, a handful of vehicles and I believe the trademark was the way the left arm was shaped, it was bent at the elbow and was positioned to fit onto the steering wheel of the vehicles. Although there were a couple figures without this most of them had the same arm position. The line ran from 1974 right into the Star Wars and Joe era ending in 1984.

There were several different figures and vehicles focused on emergency response, adventure, and exploring. The vehicles were made of plastic and well put together. There were air planes, boats, jeeps, space ships, and emergency vehicles. The figures were pretty solid as well, the legs were 1 solid piece with forward and backward motion. The arms moved up and down, and the head was on a ball that could rotate and go up and down. All in all this was a great design and I actually found a figure the other day and surprisingly after 40 + years the figure was still solid and tight.

I did have a few of these as a kid, now I’m jogging my memory going back to when I was between 4-8 years old. I had an Ambulance, an adventure boat with scuba divers, and I believe a helicopter. I remember the figure well, but I don’t recall the vehicle, I’m trying to visualize it, and part of my brain says I did have it and part says I didn’t, I may have gotten them from hand me downs so I might have only had the figure, but either way they did provide hours of fun and it may be why I fell so in love with Joes. One of the vehicles that I did have and for a long time and ended up transporting many Joes well into the 80’s, was a little green dirt bike. I remember it well and it was probably one of my favorite toys as a kid. Well constructed for rugged play and I’m not sure where it ended up, but it brings back fond memories of my childhood.
